A Knowledge Representation Formalism to Process Vague Medical Queries
نویسنده
چکیده
Many fields of application deal with vague and fuzzy information. Thus the need of tools that are able to handle this kind of data is obvious. We concentrate on the extension of well-known terminological knowledge representation systems with appropriate methods. Classical terminological knowledge representation systems are based on two-valued logics. To solve problems of uncertainty a more expressive form is unalterable. A possible extension of these systems is given by multi-valued logics. This article provides a first introduction into knowledge representation with vague information. A language that is based on a special kind of multi-valued logic is introduced. The underlying logic is called fuzzy logic. Furthermore two domains that require the sort of described methods are sketched. Both domains give examples for relevant medical problems in connection with computer science.

متن کاملA Qualitative Approach to Vague Spatio-Thematic Query Processing
In order to support the processing of spatial queries, spatial knowledge must be represented in a way that machines can make use of it. In ontology-based geographic information systems, a challenge thus is to enhance thematic knowledge with spatial knowledge. A way to achieve this is to combine existing approaches to spatial knowledge representation with ontologies. In this paper an implementat...
متن کاملGeneralizing Term Subsumption Languages to Fuzzy Logic
During the past decade, knowledge representation research in AI has generated a class of languages called term subsumption languages (TSL), which is a knowledge representation formalism with a well-defined logic-based semanticsDue to its formal semantics, a term subsumption system can automatically infer the subsumption relationships between concepts defined in the system. However, these system...
متن کاملUniform Knowledge Representation forLanguage Processing in the B 2
We describe the natural language processing and knowledge representation components of B2, a collaborative system that allows medical students to practice their decision-making skills by considering a number of medical cases that diier from each other in a controlled manner. The underlying decision-support model of B2 uses a Bayesian network that captures the results of prior clinical studies o...
متن کاملLegal Assessment Using Conjunctive Queries
Using the Web Ontology Language (OWL) for knowledge representation in the legal domain is very promising but has some limitations. The language is complex thus hard to comprehend, still decidability results in a limited expressiveness which may introduce serious problems in modelling. An aspect of limited expressiveness is the tree-model property of OWL, which can be overcome using rule formali...
